Skincare Trends for 2024 and Upcoming Viral Products
This year, we’ll continue to see the rise of skincare trends that already gained traction at the end of 2023. One standout from last year? Peptides—a powerhouse ingredient that absolutely exploded in popularity and is only set to grow stronger throughout 2024. Hydration and skin health will be at the forefront this year, especially through the use of peptides. We’re seeing more and more evidence that peptides have anti-aging potential comparable to retinol when it comes to prevention and treatment. Ceramides are also stepping into the spotlight, thanks to their ability to reinforce the skin’s barrier function.
Peptides & Ceramides in Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
These two ingredients made a comeback toward the end of 2023 and will continue to dominate this year. Ceramides are especially known for enhancing hydration and supporting the skin barrier, while peptides are emerging as the star ingredient for well-aging.
Peptides are incredibly effective in anti-aging skincare because they stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin. Studies are beginning to show that peptides may have a potency level very similar to that of retinol. So, using them together in a routine can take your well-aging regimen to the next level.
Together, ceramides and peptides help boost the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production, reducing wrinkles and improving firmness. That makes them, along with retinol, essential ingredients for anti-aging, wrinkle reduction, and firming treatments.
We always aim to stay ahead of the curve—and that’s why we’ve already included peptides in every formula we can ;)
Morning Glow Serum, for example. It’s a 10% Vitamin C serum that also contains niacinamide and peptides, making it a one-step solution for improving dark spots, radiance, wrinkles, and firmness—all while simplifying your routine.
Centella Asiatica—a classic in Korean skincare that’s finally catching on elsewhere. It’s a natural ingredient with regenerative properties, anti-inflammatory action, and a hint of anti-aging benefits. In our region, it's starting to be included in more and more formulas and is gaining popularity fast—so we expect to see it become a breakout favorite this year.
The Rise of Microbiome-Friendly Skincare
Zooming out a bit, one of the biggest overarching trends for 2024 is the focus on respecting and supporting the skin’s microbiome. The microbiome refers to all the bacteria and microorganisms that live on your skin. The microbiota—the “good” bacteria—help protect the skin against “bad” bacteria and pathogens. In short, when your microbiota is balanced and healthy, your skin is more resilient and better protected from things like Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne.
That’s why microbiome care is going to be a major focus this year. It’s all about maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria on the skin, and we do that by choosing skincare products that are microbiome-friendly and include ingredients like prebiotics and postbiotics.
Cica Face Cream with Centella Asiatica, prebiotics, and niacinamide.
Of course, the all-time classics will still reign supreme: Vitamin C, niacinamide, and retinol will remain at the top. Not only are they effective and widely recognized, but they’re also the most talked-about ingredients on social media and the most backed by scientific studies to date.
With love, see you at @twopolescosmetics & @partners.incream
