3 Must-Have Ingredients in Your Moisturizer
Did you know that moisturizers don’t just hydrate your skin—they also help lock in your skin’s natural moisture?
And when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. There’s little to no point in hydrating your skin if that moisture is just going to "escape" a few hours later. But what can we do to prevent our skin’s hydration from evaporating? The key lies in strengthening the skin’s barrier function—because not only does it block pathogens and external aggressors, but it also locks in your skin’s natural moisture.
And that’s why, friend, when choosing a moisturizer, you shouldn’t just focus on finding a texture that suits your skin type—you should also check if it contains any of these powerhouse ingredients. Here are the top three ingredients to reinforce your skin’s barrier:
- Hyaluronic Acid: This ingredient is a superstar because it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water—essentially acting like a sponge. It absorbs moisture and draws it deep into the skin. Just make sure your moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid in multiple molecular weights (i.e., different molecule sizes). That way, the larger molecules hydrate the surface, while the smaller ones penetrate deeper layers, delivering all-over hydration.
- Ceramides: Think of ceramides as "the mortar of your skin." If your skin barrier were a brick wall (defending you from the outside world), ceramides would be the cement holding it together. So, they’re absolutely essential for keeping your skin healthy, strong, and resilient.
- Niacinamide: A must-have in facial creams, niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier while offering a ton of other benefits. It balances sebum production (making it great for oily skin), fades dark spots and acne marks (thanks to its brightening properties), and even protects against sun damage (as an antioxidant).
You’ll find these ingredients in all kinds of cosmetic formulas. So—especially if you have oily skin—you might be wondering: Why not just use a serum and call it a day?
Well, aside from the fact that even oily skin needs hydration (a topic for another day), moisturizers are essential because of how they’re formulated. Their texture creates a lightweight "film" on the skin that locks in moisture for hours, preventing evaporation.
If regular creams feel too heavy, try a lighter hydrator—like our Cloud Moisturizer.

Formulated with four types of hyaluronic acid, ultra-high-quality pure ceramide NP, and niacinamide, this cream deeply hydrates and leaves skin plump and juicy for hours—yet it’s so lightweight, it absorbs instantly! Thanks to its cloud-like texture, it feels like you’re wearing nothing at all.
Prefer a richer dose of nourishment? You’ll love Cica Face Cream. It’s also powered by the three must-have hydrating ingredients, but it’s further enriched with centella asiatica, prebiotics, and other skin-loving actives that nourish, soothe, and renew your skin.
So now you know—if you want to pick the perfect moisturizer, look for at least one of these ingredients. But if it has all of them? Even better!
